Reef Acoustic Playback System (RAPS)
As the lead engineer of the team developing the Reef Acoustic Playback System, my job was to design, prototype, and build a device that could replay the sounds of a healthy coral reef in the hopes of boosting coral larval settlement. Initial results showed that we were able to double settlement using RAPS. We’ve since published our work on sound-based reef rehabilitation in Royal Society Open Science and JASA Express Letters (which also made the issue’s cover art). Our work was also widely reported on by agencies including NPR and IEEE. I will serve as co-first author for our upcoming publication (early 2025) on the design of the system.
